Background

The American Economy has experienced unprecedented growth over the past decade. However the growth has come at a cost. Individuals are working longer hours and leading more sedentary lifestyles. Physical activity has decreased and obesity has increased. Since American workers spend more waking hours at work than at home strategies must be developed to help preserve to health and productivity of the American workforce.

Early in 1999 Roche Laboratories decided to organize and conduct a major summit involving senior human resources, benefits and medical executives from top American companies. The Disney Institute and the United States Chamber of Commerce joined Roche Laboratories as partners in the conference. The groups turned to Dr. Rippe and Rippe Lifestyle Institute to help coordinate and manage this conference.

RLI's Response

Rippe Lifestyle Institute worked closely with Roche Laboratories, The United States Chamber of Commerce, Rippe Health Assessment at Celebration Health and the Disney Institute to conduct a highly successful three-day conference from February 13-16, 2000 at the Disney Institute in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. This conference was attended by senior human resources executives at many of the top companies in America including American Airlines, The Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Microsoft, McDonalds, Johnson & Johnson and many others. Rippe Lifestyle Institute staff members were responsible for coordinating the agenda, working with scientific presenters to assure high quality and relevant presentations and ultimately publishing The Proceedings of the Corporate America Health Summit 2000.

Results

The Corporate America Health Summit 2000 was phenomenally successful. Senior human resources, benefits and medical executives from over 60 companies representing millions of workers in the United States attended. Feedback from the conference was excellent. The proceedings of the conference have been very well received. Planning is currently in progress for all of the events including a potential Corporate America Health Summit 2001.
