Background

Despite increasing sophistication in many areas of nutrition among health professionals and the public at large, proper hydration is often overlooked as a simple way of promoting good health. Evian Waters of France approached RLI to help it study and promote issues related to proper hydration and then articulate the findings from research to both the public at large and the medical and health promotion communities.

RLI's Response

RLI assembled a user-friendly body of literature related to hydration and health that provided practical guidelines for the public and for health professionals. RLI also performed research examining varying levels of hydration and the subsequent effects on physiologic and cognitive performance. Additionally, between 1991 and 1993 Dr. Rippe served as a spokesperson for Evian Water and its hydration and health campaign.

Results

During the time that RLI was associated with Evian Waters of France, Evian's market share increased dramatically and Evian Water became the leading bottled water brand in the world.
